What Time Is It

Don't you love it when something wakens you in the middle of the night? You'll be sound asleep dreaming, body relaxed and totally out of it. Then all of a sudden, wham! Your eyes pop open, you look at the clock and realize it's 2:47 in the morning. The first jolt of adrenaline rushes through your blood. Did I hear a noise? Is something wrong? If you have kids, your reaction could be, are they sick? If alone it could be, is there someone trying to get in? As you do this mental list checking you also listen to any and all sounds that might be out there. After eons (which is probably no more than a minute) if nothing untoward is going on, you shake your head and wonder, what the heck woke me up?

By this time your heart is racing, the adrenaline is kicking in nicely and now that you're awake maybe a trip to the bathroom wouldn't me amiss. You toddle yourself in that direction and turn on the light. The blazing globes remove the last remnents of sleep from your consciousness. The body reacts by thinking, IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP NOW! After taking care of business, you realize that your mouth is rather dry and you should have something to drink as long as you are up. 15 minutes later you are finally back in bed, all cozied up and ready to continue that awesome dream you were having. The mind refuses to settle. You try and remember all the little details of that dream to no avail. 20 minutes later you are cursing your body for even HAVING adrenaline. 30 minutes later as you lay their reciting all the curse words you know and inventing new ones you just KNOW you are going to be too tired tomorrow to function propery. 45 minutes later you give up, get up and turn on the computer to try and tire yourself out once again. 50 minutes later your head is bobbing up and down and you can't read the monitor clearly. Success!

Quickly turning off the computer you rush back to bed, dig in under the covers once again and sigh contetentedly knowing sleep is just moments away. 5 minutes later the dog is whimpering at your side. Hey, you, up there in the bed. You woke me up! Now I have to pee! Get your butt up out of bed and let me out!

*SIGH* You give up!

The alarm goes off at 6. You pick it up and throw it across the room. Life sucks.

Good morning world!

You probably woke up to begin with because you needed to go potty - remember those dreams about water and rain or being in a swimming pool right before your eyes popped open? And then, once awake you start thinking about how there is only 2 hours and 49 minutes until that blasted alarm goes off - yep... Even when retired the sun comes up and your internal clock wakes up - reminds me not ever to stay up LATE reading and writing if I want my 8 hours....GRIN

It does get better after you retire but I simply cannot stay up LATE... or settle with 6 hours or less - of course, I was just a toddler when I recall laying awake "thinking" much to my parent's dismay.

Ya, that's about right. The way I learned to help reconcile this situation is by setting my alarm for about a half an hour before I really have to be up, and slap the snooze about seven times before sliding on into the real world. Seems to help a little. Darn cats. (my pet of choice, well my daughters pet of choice that I have to get up and let out) Darn daughter.

Repeated alarm in the middle of the night is never pleasant health, so no body love it. If you like, you can work on interent employment in India, where day time working hours.

As one who habitually gets up early, I have to say six am is a bit late for me, but I understand your stance just have to change the times.

I'm more of a night person. Getting my sleep time cut makes for a cranky man.
